AC Milan are looking at alternatives due to complications in agreeing on any deal to sign Aston Villa defender Clement Lenglet in January.

After not playing a minute of Premier League football since joining Aston Villa on loan last summer from Barcelona, the Frenchman has started the last three Premier League games.

The defender was keen on a move away from Aston Villa in January, but Unai Emery has talked to him to convince him to stay.

Barcelona are open to cutting short his loan at Aston Villa if a club are keen to sign him and AC Milan have been pushing for a deal.

But according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport (via Tutto Mercato), the Rossoneri are now shifting focus due to the complications of doing a deal.

Aston Villa do not want Lenglet to leave in the middle of the season and are not in favour of terminating his loan.

Emery has made it clear that he is hopeful that the Frenchman will stay until the end of the season.

With Aston Villa reluctant and Lenglet getting more game time, it now seems likely that he will stay at Villa Park.

AC Milan are now assessing a move to sign Brest defender Lilian Brassier in the ongoing window.
