Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has insisted his side have won the race for Liverpool attacker Fabio Carvalho and expressed his delight at beating off substantial competition.

Carvalho is close to joining the Tigers on loan for the remainder of the season after the Championship club beat off competition from a host of clubs.

There were Southampton and Leeds United all hot on Carvalho’s heels but the player eventually chose to move to the MKM Stadium, a fact that delights their owner.

Giving a sneak peek into their deal with the Reds, Ilicali insisted that Hull have indeed reached an agreement with the Merseyside giants to sign the player.

“We reached an agreement with Liverpool for the transfer of Fabio Carvalho”, Ilicali told Turkish outlet Sports Digitale.

“We have added another perfect name to our squad, who I feel will lead us to our goals!”

On the level of competition, Hull had to beat off the owner insisted: “The transfer process was very difficult.

“But Carvalho, who received more than 15 offers, chose Hull.

“We are very happy. We did a great job!

The move will be Carvalho’s second loan spell away from Liverpool with the last one being at RB Leipzig from where he was recalled in December.
