Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has admitted that Pompey academy starlet Koby Mottoh is under consideration for a professional contract.

The 17-year-old winger has been impressive for Portsmouth’s youth side this season and has featured for Mousinho’s senior team in the ongoing campaign.

Mottoh is highly rated at the Fratton Park outfit and his scholarship with the club is set to expire at the end of this season.

The Portsmouth boss stated that they are keeping track of Mottoh’s progress and added that the young winger has performed brilliantly whenever provided with an opportunity.

Mousinho admitted that Mottoh is under consideration for a professional contract, but is clear Portsmouth are under no pressure to rush a decision on the player’s future.

“‘We are keeping an eye on his progress, but it’s just about trying to get him as much exposure to the first-team as possible, which is difficult because we are already operating with five wingers”, Mousinho told The News.

“That has been tough for Koby.

“When he’s got his opportunities I thought he has been pretty good in the times he has played for the first-team this season.”

Mottoh turned out for Portsmouth in their EFL Trophy loss against AFC Wimbledon in December and Mousinho feels it was a tough game.

“It was very tough against Wimbledon to make much of an impact and I won’t judge him on that.

“For anyone that came in and sat on the bench at the age of 16, he has made pretty good progress this year and will definitely be a consideration for a pro contract for us.

“We have to make sure it’s the right thing for Koby, the right thing for the football club, we’re not under any pressure at the moment to make that decision.”

Mottoh has featured for Portsmouth in both the EFL Trophy and the EFL Cup this season.
