Aston Villa sporting director Monchi has insisted that nobody can beat him in terms of demanding from himself, but admits his spell at Sevilla did not good smoothly in its final stretch.
Monchi left the director of football role at Sevilla last summer as Aston Villa concluded a deal with the La Liga outfit for the Spaniard.
The Villa sporting director has helped Unai Emery recruit players to strengthen his team and Aston Villa are flying high this season.
Monchi stated that the last two years were very difficult for him with the Spanish outfit, but he feels they did at least have things to shout about.
The Aston Villa director of football insists that when it comes to standards, there is no one who demands more of himself than himself.
“The last two years were very hard at Sevilla, very difficult , where the demands had already become a problem”, Monchi told Spanish daily Marca.
“My demands, the pressure from outside is valid, but no one can beat me when it comes to demanding myself.
“There were two years in which things did not go so well, but I always clarify, the penultimate season we got into the Champions League, and in the last one we won a trophy, which is not like Sevilla wins one every two days.”
Monchi is likely to be hard at work in the current transfer window to try to deliver for Emery, with Aston Villa eyeing a shock top four finish.
