Liverpool left-back Luke Chambers is set to join League One side Wigan Athletic for the rest of the season on loan, according to The Athletic.

 

The teenage defender spent the latter half of last season on loan at Kilmarnock and has made four appearances in the Europa League and the EFL Cup this season for the Reds senior side.

 

He has been on the bench for four Premier League games this term and is still very much on the fringes of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

 

 

 

There are suggestions that Liverpool could loan him out again this month and there is serious interest from clubs in England.

 

It has been claimed that Wigan are are closing in on a deal to sign the left-back on loan from the Merseyside giants.

 

 

The Latics want to reinforce their defensive options as they languish in 18th in the League One table.

 

Shaun Maloney wants new additions to his squad and Wigan are dipping into the loan market for options.

 

 

Chambers has emerged as a viable target and he is expected to join the League One side on loan.

 

He is set to spend the rest of the season at the DW Stadium and get regular first-team minutes before returning to Anfield in the summer.
