In a blow to Aston Villa, Napoli have reached an agreement over a fee with Hellas Verona for winger Cyril Ngonge for a move this month.
The 23-year-old Belgian winger has been a sought-after talent this month after scoring six times in Serie A this season.
His performances have piqued the interest of several clubs in Italy and from the Premier League where Aston Villa have been interested in him.
The Villans failed with a bid for him earlier in the transfer window but it seems Napoli have managed to do business with Hellas Verona.
According to Italian broadcaster Sky Italia, the Serie A champions have a deal in place with Hellas Verona to sign Ngonge.
They have been aggressively chasing the winger’s signature and are now on the cusp of signing him.
Apart from Aston Villa, Fiorentina were also chasing Ngonge but Napoli now have their noses ahead in the race.
With a broad agreement in place, the two clubs are now discussing the final details of the deal.
Ngonge will soon travel to Naples to undergo a medical ahead of joining the Serie A giants this month.
It remains to be seen if Aston Villa might make a late bid to hijack the deal.
