Newcastle United are not optimistic about signing any new faces before the end of the January transfer window, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Eddie Howe is desperate to add fresh faces to his squad in January but the Premier League’s financial rules have constrained Newcastle.

The club are only in a position to sign players on loan in January and even that is proving to be too difficult to pull off at this stage of the window.

They have called off their pursuit of Kalvin Phillips due to Manchester City’s financial demands and will only revisit it if the Premier League champions change their stance.

It has been claimed that Newcastle are not confident about signing any players in the ongoing transfer window.

They have been ravaged by injuries this season with Joelinton now expected to miss the rest of the campaign.

However, for the moment, there is nothing in the market that excites Newcastle to make a move.

Newcastle would rather wait until the summer than bring in a new face for the sake of it this month.

The club have already indicated that they could have to sell one of their best players to continue to invest in their squad going forward.
