Real Salt Lake have been in direct contact with Sheffield Wednesday to discuss a deal to sign midfielder Josh Windass, according to The Star.

Windass has been an important member of the squad this season and has made 17 Championship appearances.

Wednesday do not want to lose any of their top players in January as they push to survive in the Championship this season.

However, Windass’ contract is set to wind down in the summer and the club are facing the real threat of the midfielder leaving the club in the middle of the season.

He has suitors in the Americas and it has been claimed that Real Salt Lake are in contact with the Owls to discuss a deal to sign him.

The MLS outfit want to strike a deal with Sheffield Wednesday to sign Windass now.

Wednesday have a decision to make on whether to sell Windass this month or risk losing him on a free transfer.

The midfielder has also been attracting interest from South America where Club Atletico Talleres of Argentina are believed to be keen on him.
