AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson has revealed that Crystal Palace loanee John-Kymani Gordon feels he did not get opportunities with Cambridge United to show his quality.

The 20-year-old centre forward joined Cambridge United on loan in the summer, but the Crystal Palace academy product started only two league games for the U’s.

Crystal Palace decided to recall Gordon from his loan to send him to League Two outfit AFC Wimbledon to aid his development.

Jackson revealed that Gordon thinks he was not given adequate opportunities to prove himself at Cambridge and stressed that the Eagles loanee is raring to get going.

The Wimbledon boss stressed that he is aware of Gordon’s hard-working nature and added that the forward will be part of his team at the weekend when they take on Crawley Town.

“He went to Cambridge, thinking that would be a good level for him, but he didn’t get the games for whatever reason”, Jackson was quoted as saying by the South London Press.

“He felt like he didn’t get the opportunity to show what he could do. He’s keen to get cracking and play games.

“He did that last season in the second half of the season – it will be the same this time around.

“Everyone I spoke with said what a nice lad and hard worker he is.

“He will be available [for Crawley]. He trained with us on Wednesday and played 75 minutes for Palace’s U21 team on Sunday.

“He’s raring to go and will come straight into the squad for Saturday.”

In the last campaign, Gordon helped Carlisle United earn promotion to League One and Jackson will be hoping that the Crystal Palace loanee will be able to aid AFC Wimbledon in their promotion push this season.
