The chase for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips could be a straight shootout between Newcastle United and West Ham United, according to the Daily Mirror.

Phillips is in demand during this month’s transfer window, but Manchester City’s financial conditions have made a deal tough to do.

A host of clubs have looked at Phillips, including Crystal Palace and Juventus, as the player seeks a move to secure game time.

Despite that, it could boil down to a two-way fight between Newcastle and West Ham for the signature of the England international.

West Ham are long time admirers of Phillips and wanted to sign him when he was at Leeds United.

Newcastle, wrestling with injury issues, are also fans and would like to take Phillips to the north east.

Newcastle United though are walking a tightrope while trying to be on the right side of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

With the clock ticking down on the transfer window, Phillips is keen to make sure he is featuring regularly in order to keep his spot in the England squad for Euro 2024.
