Newcastle United defender Javier Manquillo is in discussions with Celta Vigo about a move to the Spanish side, according to The Athletic.

Manquillo has six months left on his contract and Newcastle are keen to move him on in the ongoing transfer window.

He has not played this season due to a series of muscular injuries but has had a successful operation ahead of a full recovery.

The defender wants to play regular football but is nothing more than a fourth-choice full-back in Eddie Howe’s squad.

Manquillo is now in talks to leave Newcastle and is close to agreeing on a move to Celta Vigo in the ongoing window.

The negotiations are under way and a deal is expected to be reached for the Spaniard to return to his homeland.

Celta Vigo boss Rafael Benitez is an admirer of the former Liverpool defender and is pushing to take him back to Spain.

He signed him for Newcastle when he was the manager at St. James’ Park in 2017 and is now on the verge of reuniting with Manquillo in La Liga.
