Newcastle United chief scout Steve Nickson scouted Atalanta star Ederson on Monday when he featured against Frosinone, according to the Sun.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe wants to bring in reinforcements to strengthen his midfield and the Premier League side have been linked with several players.

Atalanta’s central midfielder Ederson has emerged as one of their targets for the ongoing window.

The 24-year-old joined the Italian outfit last season and has established himself as a key part of Atalanta’s starting line-up.

It has been claimed that Newcastle’s chief scout Nickson was present during Atalanta’s game against Frosinone to scout Ederson.

The Brazilian has two and a half years left on his current contract and Atalanta are adamant about not selling him this month.

Newcastle are struggling with the Premier League’s financial restrictions and they are unable to dig deep in their pockets in the ongoing window.

It is suggested that the Magpies might try to bring Ederson in the summer if they fail to strike a deal with Atalanta this month.
