Newcastle United are exploring trying to sign Amadou Onana on an initial loan this month, but are prepared to bring forward their summer plans if Everton indicate that they are willing to sell him, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Onana has emerged as a top target for Newcastle as they continue to push for a midfield signing this month despite financial constraints.

Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in getting their hands on the Belgian as well but Newcastle have also emerged as a potential destination for the midfielder this month.

His name has been extensively discussed in recruitment meetings at Newcastle this week and the club are considering their options.

Everton’s financial troubles mean Newcastle are prepared to test their resolve of wanting to hold on to him but their £50m asking price is an obstacle for the Magpies.

It has been claimed that Newcastle are exploring whether Everton would be open to loaning him out now with an obligation to buy for the summer.

Newcastle are also prepared to bring forward their plans for the summer by trying to sign Onana in a straightforward transfer in January if Everton indicate that they are willing to sell.

The Magpies did something similar last year as well when they signed Anthony Gordon from Everton in the winter window.

A move for the Everton star is being seriously discussed due to question marks over Joelinton’s future at Newcastle.

However, Sean Dyche has already made it clear that he does not want to lose any of his important players in January.
