Stoke City will pocket a financial boost from Will Goodwin moving from Cheltenham Town to Oxford United, according to journalist Jon Palmer.

Oxford United confirmed on Friday that they had completed the signing of Goodwin from fellow League One side Cheltenham Town on a long-term deal.

A former Stoke City player, Goodwin joined the Robins in January last year and featured in 32 games for them, making nine goal contributions.

Oxford are thought to have shelled out around £400,000 to sign the promising striker and that will give Stoke a boost.

Stoke are entitled to be paid 15 per cent of the overall fee that Oxford United will pay Cheltenham Town.

Des Buckingham will hope that Goodwin will make a useful contribution towards helping the U’s to push for promotion this season.

Charlton Athletic were also keen to sign the striker.

It remains to be seen whether Goodwin will help Oxford win promotion and then line up against Stoke in the Championship next term.
