West Ham United are in front in the race for Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips as Newcastle United are still not warm regarding the financial cost of the deal for the midfielder, according to the Daily Mirror.

Phillips is on the radar of several Premier League clubs in the ongoing transfer window.

The Sky Blues are willing to let the English international leave on loan and West Ham, Newcastle and Crystal Palace are battling for his signature.

However, despite being keen on landing Phillips, due to financial restrictions, Newcastle are struggling to meet Manchester City’s demand for a hefty loan fee.

It has been suggested that West Ham have opened talks with the Sky Blues to take the midfielder on loan.

David Moyes wants to bring in midfield reinforcements this month and he is an admirer of Phillips’ talents.

And now it has been claimed that West Ham are in pole position to beat stiff competition from Newcastle and Crystal Place to land the signature of the English midfielder.

Newcastle have a long-held interest in Phillips, but they are still not willing to bear the financial costs of the deal.

Now it remains to be seen whether Newcastle will be able to find a solution with Manchester City to snatch the West Ham target in the ongoing window.
