Ipswich Town’s top scout Sam Williams watched Blackburn Rovers attacker Sam Gallagher in action this weekend, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
The Tractor Boys want to add to Kieran McKenna’s attacking options as they bid to continue to fight for a top two finish in the Championship.
Southampton’s superb form has reeled Ipswich in and now Saints sit in second place while McKenna’s men are third.
Gallagher has emerged as a key target during this month’s transfer window and Ipswich would like to take him to Portman Road.
Williams went to watch Gallagher in Blackburn Rovers’ 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town on Saturday to stay hot on his heels.
Ipswich have already seen one bid for Gallagher turned down this month.
They may however return to the chase before the transfer window closes and improve their proposal.
Gallagher clocked 70 minutes against Huddersfield before being replaced by boss Jon Dahl Tomasson.
