West Ham and Manchester City are in direct contact regarding Kalvin Phillips as the Hammers push to sign the midfielder on loan, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Newcastle United have been heavily linked with a move for Phillips but the Magpies do not want to meet Manchester City’s financial demands.

Crystal Palace have also been interested in getting the midfielder but West Ham have emerged as the favourites to land the England international.

David Moyes wants to bring in a midfielder before the end of the window and the Manchester City star is one of his top targets.

It has been claimed that the two clubs are now engaged in direct talks over agreeing on a deal to take Phillips to the London Stadium.

The Hammers want to sign him on loan for the rest of the season while Manchester City would prefer to include a purchase clause in the agreement.

The two clubs are expected to hold more talks over the week to get close to working out a deal.

Phillips is a player West Ham want and the club are pushing to secure his signature before the end of the window.

The midfielder is likely to demand guarantees over minutes before agreeing to a move.
