Newcastle United held preliminary talks with clubs in Saudi Arabia over the prospect of selling Miguel Almiron before the player was aware, according to The Athletic.

Almiron has been heavily linked with a move away from Newcastle in the ongoing window with serious interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Shabab have been in conversations with Newcastle about signing the winger and he has also been tracked by Al-Ahli.

Newcastle need player sales to bring in new faces this month and Almiron is being viewed as dispensable by some at the club.

It has been claimed that Newcastle approached clubs in Saudi over a deal for the Paraguayan before the player was aware.

Almiron was not initially aware that Newcastle have had preliminary talks with Saudi Pro League clubs.

The revelation of the fact has led to awkwardness and Almiron is not sold on a move to Saudi Arabia at this stage of the season.

If the player does not agree to a move, it is likely to leave Newcastle in a difficult position in the ongoing window.

Eddie Howe also wants to be sure about getting a replacement before the Paraguayan is sold.
