Tam McManus has pointed out that Hibernian’s performance against Rangers on Wednesday proved that a defender is a priority for them, but he finds Hibs’ lack of movement in the market for a centre-back worrying.

On Wednesday, Hibs suffered a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Rangers in front of their home crowd and they have now conceded the second-most goals in the league so far this campaign.

Hibernian have brought in three players in the form of Myziane Maolida, Emiliano Marcondes and Luke Amos to Easter Road in this window but have yet to sign a centre-back to strengthen their defence.

McManus thinks Hibs’ performance against Rangers pinpointed that a centre-back is a priority for Nick Montgomery and stressed that it is worrying that with less than a week remaining in the window, Hibernian have yet to sign a defender.

The former Hibs star admitted that three new signings in the window is good and is hoping that the club will be able to bring in a centre-back who will provide the necessary nastiness for the team.

“I think they are three good signings”, McManus wrote in his Daily Record column.

“But it’s worrying there’s still no sign of a new defender with less than a week left of the window.

“The performance the other night proved once again that has to be the priority.

“Hopefully they can get one in that knows how to defend – and who also has that bit of the nastiness as well.”

Hibs are winless in their last five league games and Montgomery’s side will be determined to get back to winning ways on Saturday against Kilmarnock.
