Xabi Alonso is planning to be at Bayer Leverkusen next season amidst rumours of him replacing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Klopp dropped a bombshell on the football community on Friday when he announced that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the ongoing season.

The German signed a new deal with the Reds in 2022 but will now end his time at Anfield in a few months.

There are already rumours around his potential replacements and Alonso is currently the favourites to fill the German’s shoes on Merseyside.

The Spaniard was a popular player at Liverpool and his managerial work at Bayer Leverkusen has earned him massive plaudits.

However, according to Spanish daily Marca, Alonso’s current plan is to start next season as Leverkusen’s head coach.

His team are currently defying the odds in Germany and are leading the Bundesliga table ahead of Bayern Munich.

He has become a sought-after coach in Europe but for the moment, he plans to stay at Leverkusen next season.

It remains to be seen whether that changes if Liverpool offer him the job of replacing Klopp in the summer.
