Liverpool will appoint a new sporting director before identifying a new manager to replace Jurgen Klopp, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Reds will now have to commence the search for a new manager after Klopp announced on Friday that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Xabi Alonso has emerged as the bookies’ favourite to replace Klopp but he is reportedly planning to stay one more season at Bayer Leverkusen.

It has been claimed that Liverpool do not have a name lined up to replace their outgoing German manager yet.

The Merseyside giants are expecting to appoint a new sporting director first before a new manager is identified.

Jorge Schmadtke will be leaving Anfield as well at the end of the January transfer window as per previous plans.

The Reds are expecting to go through an extensive process before Klopp’s successor can be identified.

They do not want to disrupt any club’s season by trying to hold talks with their manager and are only expecting to appoint someone towards the end of the season.
