Celtic are still some way away from working out an agreement over a new deal with 18-year-old midfielder Rocco Vata, according to Football Scotland.

The teenage midfielder has already made five senior appearances for Celtic but his future at the club is far from certain.

He is in the final six months of his contract and there are clubs in Europe and down south who are interested in snaring him away from Celtic.

The Bhoys are pushing to tie him down to a new contract and have offered him a fresh four-year deal.

However, it has been claimed that no agreement is still in place between Celtic and Vata’s representatives over a new contract.

Celtic and his camp are still far apart in terms of getting a deal done but talks are expected to continue between the two sides.

The Scottish champions do not want to lose the talented young midfielder but are at real risk of doing so.

Clubs in Europe and down south are at liberty to agree on a pre-contract with the teenager this month.

Celtic would be due a compensation of £340,000 if Vata leaves the club at the end of the season when his current deal expires.
