Blackburn Rovers are set to bag a club record fee from the imminent departure of Adam Wharton to Crystal Palace, according to the Daily Mail.

Following weeks of negotiations, Crystal Palace finally have a deal in place to sign the 19-year-old midfielder from the Championship club.

Wharton is currently on his way to London where he will undergo a medical ahead of signing a long-term contract with Palace.

Blackburn rejected a £18.5m bid from Crystal Palace earlier in the window and were believed to be holding out for somewhere around £25m.

Crystal Palace have managed to negotiate the price down but it has been claimed that they have still agreed to pay a fee of £22m.

The deal represents an unprecedented success for Blackburn who are bagging club record fee from Wharton’s imminent departure.

It remains to be seen whether Jon Dahl Tomasson gets any of the proceeds to reinvest in his squad before Thursday’s deadline.

Crystal Palace believe that at £22m, Wharton represents good value given some of the top Premier League clubs were also interested in him.
