Oxford United are pushing to secure a deal to sign Fleetwood Town striker Jack Marriott ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Marriott has scored five times in 24 League One appearances this season and was more or less a regular in the Fleetwood team until recently.

He has failed to get on the pitch in two of their last three league games and the striker is claimed to be keen to move on.

Oxford have come forward with an attempt to sign the forward from Fleetwood in the final days of the transfer window.

They are willing to offer a deal to their fellow League One side to take Marriott off their hands.

The striker is open to moving to the south of England before the end of the window if Oxford can reach an agreement with Fleetwood.

He is on big wages at Fleetwood but Oxford are confident of sorting out the details to push through a transfer.

With the transfer window closing on Thursday, Oxford are pressing forward with their plans to try and sign the Fleetwood hitman.
