Liverpool would have to pay a hefty fee to Bayer Leverkusen if they want to bring Xabi Alonso to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp is set to part ways with Liverpool at the end of the ongoing season and now the Reds have a job on their hands to appoint his successor.

Several candidates have been linked with the Liverpool job, but Bayer Leverkusen boss Alonso has come out as the favourite.

Under the management of Alonso, the German outfit are at the top of the Bundesliga table and are two points clear of second-placed Bayern Munich.

Leverkusen are confident about keeping Alonso at the club for next season, despite the former Spanish international being linked with the Liverpool job.

According to German magazine Sport Bild (via Fussball Transfers), Liverpool would have to dig deep in their pockets to take Alonso from Leverkusen.

It is claimed Liverpool would have to pay a compensation fee of at least €10m to Leverkusen for Alonso.

Leverkusen would not stand in the way of Alonso taking over at Liverpool, but would want substantial compensation from the Reds.
