FC Groningen star Kevin van Veen wants to return to Scotland and Hearts, Kilmarnock and St. Mirren are battling for his signature on deadline day.

The 32-year-old centre forward left Motherwell after the expiry of his contract to join Dutch outfit Groningen in the summer.

Van Veen has featured 14 times for the Dutch club this season and has managed to net five goals in the process.

The striker has not featured for Groningen since November and knocked back offers from Turkey and Kazakhstan, while links with Vitesse have come to nothing.

Van Veen wants to return to Scotland and, according to Dutch radio station RTV Noord, he has suitors in the form of Hearts, Kilmarnock and St. Mirren.

Hearts are eyeing a place in Europe next season and they are in the market for a centre forward.

Van Veen spent two seasons with Motherwell before moving to Groningen, where he scored 40 goals in 83 games for them.

Now it remains to be seen whether Hearts will be able to land the player, beating stiff competition from Kilmarnock and St. Mirren.
