Kilmarnock are set to beat St. Mirren to the signature of FC Groningen striker Kevin van Veen, it has been claimed in the Netherlands.

Van Veen joined Groningen last summer following a wonderful season in Scotland where he scored 29 times for Motherwell.

The forward’s future has come into sharp focus on deadline day due to serious interest from clubs in Scotland to take him back to the country.

As many as three clubs were chasing him but Kilmarnock and St. Mirren reached an agreement over loan deals with Groningen for the Dutch forward.

Van Veen has been keen to return to Scotland and according to RTV Noord, the player has made his choice.

Following talks with both clubs, Van Veen has decided to take up the offer to join Kilmarnock.

With agreements in place between Kilmarnock, Van Veen and Groningen, the deal is now dependent on the formalities of the transfer getting completed in time.

Killie will hope to put him through a medical soon and sort out all the paperwork in time before the window closes tonight.

The club are hoping to get the deal over the line to take Van Veen to Rugby Park for the rest of the season.
