Nottingham Forest have tabled a late deadline day bid to sign Ajax striker Chuba Akpom, it has been claimed in the Netherlands.

Forest are on the cusp of signing Belgian goalkeeper Matz Sels from Strasbourg today but the club are in the market for more players.

With only a few hours left in the transfer window, Nottingham Forest are now pushing to reinforce their attacking options for the rest of the season.

According to the Dutch daily De Telegraaf, Nottingham Forest have made a late move to try and get their hands on former Arsenal and Middlesbrough striker Akpom.

The Midlands club are trying to work out a deal that would see Akpom join Forest on loan for the rest of the season.

Nottingham Forest have also attached a buy-option worth €15m with their loan proposal to Ajax on deadline day.

Ajax are now mulling over whether to accept a bid for the striker late in the winter transfer window.

In principle, the Dutch champions do not want to lose anyone just hours before the window closes but Forest’s offer is more than they paid to Boro for Akpom last summer.

Forest are hoping to convince Ajax to sell the striker as they look to sneak in a late signing.
