Leeds United and Middlesbrough have been left disappointed after Manuel Benson decided not to leave Burnley late in the window, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Benson has struggled for game time at Burnley this season and was widely expected to be loaned out this month.

Burnley blocked a move to Southampton for Benson, but gave him the chance to head to other Championship sides on deadline day.

Leeds and Middlesbrough were both options for Benson and both sides expressed late interest in signing him.

Benson though told Burnley that he does not want to leave the club on loan.

The winger is clear that he wants to stay at Turf Moor and fight for game time under Vincent Kompany.

A move to Leeds would have given Benson the chance to be involved in a promotion battle in the Championship, while Middlesbrough harbour playoff aspirations.

Benson is not convinced about leaving though and will hope he proves to have made the right choice.
