Former Ipswich Town star Alex Mathie pointed out the Blues new boy Ali Al-Hamadi has speed and added the striker can make the right runs behind the opposition defence.

Al-Hamadi scored 17 times while assisting seven goals in all competitions for AFC Wimbledon in the first half of the season to turn some heads.

The 21-year-old’s performances impressed Kieran McKenna and Ipswich Town signed him on a four-and-a-half year contract.

Al-Hamadi impressed Mathie with his performance against Preston North End by coming on from the bench and the former Ipswich star stated that the player has speed.

Mathie believes due to being young Al-Hamadi has a lot going in his favour and thinks that the Iraq international can make good runs behind the defence.

“He looks like a player who makes the right runs; he tries to run over the top and he has got pace about him”, Mathie said on BBC Radio Suffolk.

“He scored 17 goals for Wimbledon, set up a few goals and assists as well.

“He is just 21, so he has a lot going for him.”

Al-Hamadi assisted a goal for Kieffer Moore by coming off the bench at the weekend and he will be eyeing his first start in Ipswich colours against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
