Everton assistant manager Ian Woan has expressed his delight at the progress James Garner has made to develop into a solid Premier League performer.

Everton signed Garner from Manchester United in the summer of 2022 and after a slow start to life at Goodison Park, he has been a revelation this season.

A deep-lying midfielder by trade, the 22-year-old has been used in several roles by Sean Dyche this term and he is now one of the first names on his team-sheet.

Woan admitted that the former Manchester United midfielder has been incredible this season and he is a big fan of the edge that he has when Garner is on the pitch for the Toffees.

The Everton assistant boss is pleased that the 22-year-old has developed into a well-rounded Premier League star over the last season or so.

Woan told The Athletic: “Jimmy Garner has been incredible because we have used him in every position possible.

“He just gets the job done and has got a narky edge that I love.

“He’s matured into a really good Premier League footballer.”

A product of the Manchester United academy, Garner was not shown faith by Erik ten Hag, who decided to move him on in his first summer window.
