Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has revealed that the lure of managing in the Premier League yet again was the reason behind his choosing the Addicks as he feels he is back on the journey.

Jones returned to full-time management with the League One club earlier this week after being out of job for almost a year.

The Welshman’s last job was in the Premier League with Southampton, though it lasted for just three months.

The 50-year-old insists that after having worked for 30 years to experience the Premier League and failing to achieve success there, he is keen on returning yet again and hopes to do that with Charlton.

Jones further took time to insist that the Addicks have the necessary infrastructure to sustain the Premier League levels and therefore can achieve success when they get there.

The immediate aim though is to win games and then invest in the squad in the summer build on from there.

“I worked for 30 odd years to work in the Premier League, didn’t work out, fine I’ve got two choices – do I give up or be back on that journey”, Jones said at a press conference.

“I am back on that journey. That was why it was important to pick a club that I believe I will get back there with.

“If Charlton in four years’ time are in the Premier League, no one would say that it is out of the realms of possibility.

“Because it has been in the Premier League, it has a Premier League infrastructure but that is only good if we can get the results to get us back there.

“But first and foremost we have to win games this season that is the be-all and end-all and then we will build again in the summer and see where we can go next year.”

Charlton are currently fighting relegation in League One and only have a one point cushion over those sides in the drop zone.
