Former Championship star David Prutton believes that Sunderland may be running into Huddersfield Town at the wrong time despite the Black Cats’ decent show of late.
Following the sacking of Darren Moore at the end of last month, the Terriers have been under caretaker manager Jon Worthington for the last two games.
Worthington’s first match ended in a notable 4-0 win over strugglers Sheffield Wednesday, while then Huddersfield managed to score three past Southampton in a 5-3 loss.
In front of them now are Michael Beale’s Sunderland, who have been misfiring of late, but registered their second win in the last five league games against Plymouth on Saturday.
Prutton believes that it may be the wrong time for the Black Cats to face the Terriers given the kind of fight Worthington’s team put up against the Saints.
“Huddersfield can take a lot from that performance against Southampton, even if they didn’t get anything from the game”, Prutton wrote in his column for Sky Sports.
“No one gave them a prayer on the south coast, so to score three goals and give a side that good a real scare should bode well.
“Sunderland have had a decent couple of wins at home of late which has helped ease some of the pressure on Michael Beale.
“But they may have run into Huddersfield at the wrong time.
“There should be goals here, but I fancy a draw.”
Both sides need points to help their causes, with Sunderland trying to get into the top six to earn a playoff spot, while Huddersfield want to avoid falling into the drop zone.
