Iwan Roberts is of the view that Norwich City have a good backup for Jonathon Rowe in Borja Sainz and thinks that the winger has a resemblance to former Canaries star Emi Buendia.

Rowe has been a standout performer for Norwich this season, but he picked up a hamstring injury during the Queens Park Rangers game last weekend, which might keep him out of action for a significant amount of time.

Norwich brought in Sainz in the summer and despite a slow start to the season, he has managed to establish himself as a key player in David Wagner’s team.

Roberts believes that Norwich have a good replacement in place of Rowe in the form of Sainz, who he thinks has been good in recent games.

The ex-Norwich star is of the opinion that Sainz shares similar qualities with former Canaries winger Buendia and pointed out that the Spaniard is good with both feet and has speed.

“City do have good back-up [for Rowe], though, with Borja Sainz, someone I really like”, Roberts wrote in his Pink Un column.

“I don’t want to go over the top, but he really is looking the part.

“I had a bit of a pop when he stupidly got himself sent off at The Hawthorns and I think I was right in doing so.

“I think it was stupidity on his part and it cost the club at least a point because there was not a lot to separate West Brom and Norwich on the day.

“But the more I see of him – and I don’t want to heap the pressure on his shoulders, I don’t want people to think you’re talking out of your heart – but he’s got the look of Emi Buendia when he first signed – he’s got that quick pace, he’s busy, he’s always on the move, he’s got that pace, he’s got that balance, got two good feet.”

Sainz has featured 19 times for Norwich in the league so far this season and has netted three goals while laying on one assist in the process.
