Marco Gabbiadini has insisted that Sunderland’s recent bad performances are not all down to former manager Michael Beale’s wrong tactics.

Beale was appointed as Sunderland boss in December, but he was sacked on Monday after being only in charge for 12 games.

A section of Sunderland fans were unhappy with Beale’s appointment and his tactics have received criticism for the Black Cats’ poor form.

At the weekend, Sunderland lost 2-1 to Birmingham City and Gabbiadini pointed out that Sunderland were in the game until the end on Saturday, but some poor decisions from the players led to their defeat.

The former Black Cats star also pointed out mistakes made by Sunderland’s players during the second goal against Birmingham City and he refused to blame Beale’s tactics for their recent form.

“We were in that [Birmingham City] game, but we threw it away with poor decisions, poor defending for the second goal, and two players turned their backs on the ball”, Gabbiadini said on BBC Total Sport.

“Why two of our most consistent players? People might say they did that because they were not enthused by the manager.

“Okay, I accept that, but to say it is all down to his bad decisions is a little bit far-fetched.”

Sunderland have appointed Beale’s assistant Mike Dodds as their interim boss until the end of the season.
