Former Bundesliga star Jan Aage Fjortoft has warned Liverpool that their plans to get Xabi Alonso could be affected by Thomas Tuchel’s departure from Bayern Munich.

Liverpool have identified Alonso as their top target to replace Jurgen Klopp, who will be leaving the Reds at the end of the season.

The Reds are believed to have already been in contact with their former midfielder, but now they do not have a clear run at the Bayer Leverkusen coach.

Bayern Munich announced earlier today that Tuchel will be leaving at the end of the season and Alonso is their top target as well.

The German champions are also in contact with Alonso and Fjortoft warned Liverpool that they will have to move quickly on the Spaniard if they want him.

He pointed out that Alonso is the Bayern Munich board’s top target as well to replace Tuchel and today’s news could have an impact.

The former Bundesliga striker took to X and wrote: “Tuchel going this summer could have an impact on Liverpool’s plan for the summer – and how quickly they have to move.

“Cause Bayern want Alonso as their next manager too.”

Alonso wants to remain focused on Leverkusen’s season as they have a massive chance to win the Bundesliga in the coming months.
