Former Championship star Sam Parkin has insisted that Sheffield Wednesday have a great opportunity to pick up crucial points in their next three league games in their pursuit of safety.

Wednesday have won two of their last three league games but are still languishing in the Championship’s relegation zone.

They are still four points off safety and are facing an uphill battle to save their Championship status in the coming months.

They have a favourable run of fixtures in their next three with two home games against Bristol City and Plymouth and an away trip to Rotherham.

Parkin believes this is their opportunity for Sheffield Wednesday to put together a mini-run of results and pick up some crucial points.

The former Championship star insisted that the Yorkshire team have shown spirit in the last few weeks.

Parkin said on the What The EFL Podcast: “I don’t want to go too big because things can just turn around, but I just think these three games are enormous.

“Bristol City at home, Rotherham away and Plymouth at home.

“What an opportunity to put a mini-run together and then they play Leeds and Ipswich.

“By the time, these five games are out of the way, there are eight games remaining and they could be much further adrift.

“I know the great escape can happen but they have got spirit, momentum and the crowd with them at the moment.

“It’s an opportune moment to get six or seven points from these three games and really give themselves an opportunity.”

Danny Rohl has been insistent that his team still have a chance of performing the great escape this season.
