Former Derby County star Shaun Barker is of the opinion that the Rams have not been outstanding at Pride Park this season.

Derby suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Nathan Jones’ Charlton Athletic at Pride Park on Tuesday, despite leading the game with a 40th-minute strike by Eiran Cashin.

Tuesday’s game marked the second game in a row for the Rams where they failed to seal three points despite taking the lead in the first half.

Barker pointed out that Derby’s home performances have not been outstanding this season and stressed that Paul Warne’s side often failed to outcompete their opposition at Pride Park in the ongoing campaign.

The former Derby defender highlighted that in tight games, the Rams have showcased a lack of desire to push the opposition to create breathing space for themselves after scoring the first goal.

“Performances in general at home have not been outstanding”, Barker told Derby County’s official media.

“They have not been at a level where you feel they have overrun, outcompeted and dominated the opposition, and those games where we were comfortable winners, except that.

“In the other games where it was quite tight and quite close, you always feel we get a goal and then we never push on, we never kick on to give yourself a breathing space and to really put the sword to the opposition and that was clearly the case in the game today.”

Derby have now suffered back-to-back defeats in League One and they will be determined to turn their form around against Port Vale at the weekend.
