Aston Villa are ‘in pole’ position to sign snap up Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso on a free transfer in the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old centre-back has remained a key part of the Atletico Madrid squad this season despite his contract situation.
He will be out of contract at the end of the season and Diego Simeone has not lost hope of the defender signing a new deal with the club.
However, clubs are lining up to potentially sign him on a free transfer this summer and Juventus and AC Milan are amongst the teams chasing Hermoso.
However, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, Aston Villa are ‘in pole’ in the race to sign Hermoso.
Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is very much aware of the defender’s situation at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The Villa manager, alongside sporting director Monchi, has made an early move to try and convince Hermoso to move to the Midlands.
A deal is not in place yet and Hermoso is yet to make up his mind about leaving Atletico Madrid.
