Veteran broadcaster Richard Keys is of the view that Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has made a habit of getting tactics for the big games wrong, which he dubbed ‘worrying’.
Aston Villa are having a brilliant season, as they are currently fourth in the league table and eyeing Champions League qualification.
On Sunday, Aston Villa missed out on an opportunity to increase their lead over fifth placed Tottenham Hotspur as they suffered a 4-0 thumping defeat at the hands of Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Keys believes that John McGinn’s sending off in the 66th minute has nothing to do with Aston Villa’s humiliation at home on Sunday and said that Spurs were excellent in the second half.
He feels that Emery has made it a habit of getting his tactics wrong in the big games, which he believes is a worrying sign for Aston Villa supporters.
“We’ve got to mention Spurs”, Keys wrote on his blog.
“What a good job they did on Villa.
“They spanked them – and it had nothing to do with McGinn’s sending off.
“It had more to do with Emery getting it wrong in a big game again.
“That’s a worrying trend if you’re a Villa fan.
“But that shouldn’t detract from Spurs’ performance.
“They were great in that second-half.”
Aston Villa are still two points clear of Tottenham Hotspur in the league table; however, Spurs have a game in hand.
