Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has stressed that his side were guilty of taking things easy and almost squandering a win against Burton Albion on Tuesday night.

Kusini Yengi scored a brace either side of half-time to give Portsmouth a 2-0 lead but the home side were hanging on towards the end after John Brayford halved their lead by scoring in the 81st minute.

Portsmouth did manage to hold on to a 2-1 win and remained at the top of the League One standings.

Mousinho stressed that his team were the better side for the majority of the game and deserved their two-goal lead.

However, he admitted that his side did ease off a bit in the second half and almost paid the price for it towards the end of the game.

The Portsmouth boss conceded that Burton could have easily scored a late equaliser and his team need to find ways to close out games more professionally going forward.

Mousinho told club media after the game: “We deserved the lead at half time and we deserved to go 2-0 up.

“The only criticism that I have is that we didn’t go 3-0 or 4-0 up.

“I thought things became slightly easier for us and we took our foot off the gas.

“You always leave yourself open to a long throw, a set piece, a ball dropping in the box and we have just got to be a bit better at that.

“Towards the back end of the game, if one of those goals goes in or the penalty is given and you are coming away drawing this game and thinking how on earth did, we do that?

“We have got to be a bit more professional in terms of the way we see games out.”

Portsmouth have a five-point lead at the top of the League One standings with eight games left in the season.
