Marc Albrighton has insisted that Leicester City never expected the season to be a completely smooth ride and stressed that his team now need to dig deep and get over the line.

Leicester have been the outright favourites for promotion since the start of the season and at some point, it seemed that it would be a cakewalk for them to win the Championship.

There were suggestions about setting new points record for the Championship, but that talk has disappeared in the last few weeks due to a patchy run of form.

The Foxes have won just one of their last five league games and their lead at the top has been cut down to just three points.

Albrighton admitted that the fantastic first half of the season meant that there was a false sense of security but the Championship was never going to be an easy ride for any team.

He stressed the importance of Leicester digging deep to make sure that promotion is secured in the last nine games of the season.

The Leicester winger said on the When You’re Smiling Podcast: “We were spoilt a little bit at the start of the season with win after win.

“It was never going to be that easy throughout the whole season.

“We have got ourselves in a great position and this is the point of the season where we really need to dig deep and see it through.”

Leicester will be in FA Cup action against Chelsea this weekend and their next league fixture is against Bristol City after the international break.
