Lincoln City boss Michael Skubala has indicated that Oxford United manager Des Buckingham looking to gee up the U’s crowd last night played into the Imps’ hands.

Skubala’s men grabbed a hugely important 1-0 win away at Oxford United on Tuesday night to keep their hopes of catching the U’s in League One’s final playoff spot alive.

Lincoln scored through a Danny Mandroiu penalty just after half-time and held on to their lead even after Dylan Duffy was sent off with seven minutes remaining.

Oxford United boss Buckingham tried to gee the home crowd up and put extra pressure on Lincoln, but Skubala indicated it backfired.

He insists the U’s manager increasing the noise level simply helped his players and made them better.

“He can gee the crowd up as much as he likes, our players love it”, Skubala told reporters post match.

“Bring more noise, as much as you want, we get better.

“But our travelling fans today, I just said to the lads, listen to those fans, they are so proud of you and the super hard work you have put in.”

Lincoln sit two points behind sixth placed Oxford United with both sides having two more games left to play.

Skubala’s men go to Cheltenham Town and then host Portsmouth, while Oxford United host Stevenage and head to Exeter City.
