Celtic have received a boost in their pursuit of goalkeeper Koen Casteels due to his Champions League preference, according to the Glasgow Times.

With Joe Hart retiring following the Scottish Cup final this weekend, Celtic are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to add someone experienced who could slot straight into the first team and fill Hart’s shoes.

Casteels is a goalkeeper who is set to be available this summer and Celtic are amongst the clubs who are chasing him.

And it has been claimed that Celtic have a leg-up over some of his suitors in pursuit of the 31-year-old shot-stopper this summer.

Casteels will be leaving Wolfsburg on a free transfer in the coming weeks and he has a clear preference for Champions League football.

The Belgian wants to play in Europe’s elite club competition next season and would give preference to clubs involved in it.

Celtic have again qualified for the Champions League and will hope that it would lure Casteels to Parkhead.
