Newcastle United’s head of recruitment Steve Nickson has travelled to Italy in recent months to scout Atalanta star Ederson, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 24-year-old Brazilian international is experiencing an excellent season with Atalanta and on Wednesday, he helped the Italian giants win the Europa League.

Premier League outfits in the form of Newcastle United and Manchester United are interested in acquiring the services of Ederson.

Newcastle are hoping to strengthen their midfield in the summer and the 24-year-old is high on their list.

Magpies head of recruitment Nickson has visited Italy to watch Ederson play in recent months, getting an up close look at him.

The Atalanta star has admirers in Serie A as well, and he has three more years left on his contract with the Bergamo outfit.

Dan Ashworth, who is currently on gardening leave, has previously led Newcastle’s pursuit of Ederson.

Ederson could likely be seen as a possible replacement for Bruno Guimarares.

Guimaraes has a £100m release clause in his Newcastle contract and the club will be powerless to prevent his departure if it is triggered.
