Atletico Madrid have identified Liverpool-linked midfielder Mats Wieffer as their top midfield target for the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old Dutch midfielder was a big part of the Feyenoord side that won the Eredivisie last year and was again impressive this season.

Arne Slot’s move to become the Liverpool manager has fuelled rumours of the midfielder reuniting with the Dutch coach on Merseyside this summer.

There are suggestions that Slot wants Wieffer at Anfield but it has been claimed he is a big target for one of the Spanish giants.

According to Spanish sports daily AS, he is the priority target for Atletico Madrid in the next transfer window.

The Spanish giants are looking for a long-term replacement for Koke this summer and are scanning several midfielders.

However, Wieffer has emerged as the favourite to join the Spanish giants ahead of next season.

The Dutchman has a contract until 2027 with Feyenoord and they are likely to demand big money before agreeing to sell him.
