Hull City chairman Acun Ilicali played a key role in convincing Jose Mourinho to agree to become the Fenerbahce manager.
The two-time Champions League-winning manager is set to head to Turkey in his latest career move.
He has given his approval to Fenerbahce and will soon sign a two-year contract to become their next manager.
Fenerbahce’s success in convincing the Portuguese to agree to become their manager is being seen as a major coup.
And according to Turkish outlet Haber, Hull chairman Ilicali played a major role in Fenerbahce landing Mourinho this summer.
He is a big media figure in Turkey and is said to have close ties with Fenerbahce and the club’s board.
Ilicali also shares a close relationship with Mourinho and is a key behind-the-scenes figure in Fenerbahce’s coup in landing the Portuguese coach.
Mourinho has been out of work since being sacked by Serie A giants Roma earlier this year.
Fenerbahce are hopeful that he will help them end their more than decade-long wait for a league title.
