Charlton Athletic are set to beat Oxford United to land Coventry City hitman Matt Godden, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Last season, Charlton Athletic went through a disastrous campaign and they are keen on not repeating last season’s mistakes.

The Addicks have been active on the transfer market to strengthen their squad and a striker is on their agenda, with Nathan Jones keen on Godden.

Charlton are ready to part ways with striker Alfie May, who is set to join Birmingham City this summer.

Coventry’s Godden has caught the attention of Jones and Charlton have been battling out with Oxford to land the forward.

Now it has been claimed that Godden has agreed to join the Addicks and completed his medical on Monday.

Godden has entered the final 12 months of his contract with Coventry and Charlton have managed to agree a deal with the Championship outfit.

Last season, the 32-year-old forward played a bit part role in Coventry’s campaign and managed to net six goals in the league.
