West Ham United have told Flamengo that they will only accept a permanent transfer for Lucas Paqueta and not a loan deal.

The Brazilian giants have been in talks for around a month to try to bring Paqueta back to his homeland.

The Hammers are open to offloading the midfielder, who continues to be the subject of an investigation around betting rule breaches, though no hearing date has yet been set.

Paqueta is happy to make the move to Flamengo if terms can be agreed, but the Brazilian side have encountered a major issue in the shape of West Ham’s stance.

According to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Flamengo are aware that West Ham will not sanction a loan move for Paqueta.

The Premier League side are willing to negotiate on the details of a permanent transfer, but they will not sit down to discuss any loan move.

West Ham will also not accept a loan offer with an obligation to buy dependent upon Paqueta’s status after his hearing.

Flamengo are continuing to work on a deal, but want to make sure they are legally protected in the event that Paqueta is banned.

It has been suggested that even if banned, Paqueta and his team could look to keep that ban within English football in order that he could continue to play in Brazil.

Flamengo are looking at all the legalities involved as they weigh up what to do.
