Newcastle United have struggled to find a buyer for striker Callum Wilson this summer, according to the Daily Telegraph.

With only a year left on his contract, the 32-year-old forward was expected to leave Newcastle this summer.

Wilson was also believed to be prepared to seek a new challenge at this stage of his career and move on from Newcastle.

However, it emerged that Wilson is set to stay at Newcastle beyond the end of the ongoing summer transfer window.

It has been claimed that the key reason behind the forward staying is the club’s failure to attract interest in him.

Newcastle have struggled to create a market for the striker this summer despite wanting to move him on.

The club have failed to attract any solid interest from clubs in acquiring Wilson’s services in the ongoing transfer window.

Wilson, who missed large chunks of last season due to injury, is now set to continue at the club next season.

Newcastle are facing the real threat of the striker leaving the club on a free transfer next year.

With the window open until the end of August, there is still time however for the situation to change.
